The Connemarathon takes place in Connemara, Co. Galway with the three race distances (half, full and ultra) starting in different places and all finishing in Maam Cross. The ultra starts approx. 1 mile from Maam Cross, the full starts at Lough Inagh and the half starts in Leenane. It is not possible to park at the start areas and buses are provided to bring all participants to the start lines. The buses leave from Galway, Oughterard and Clifden and return to these locations after the race.




The times listed below are final departure times for the buses.
You MUST arrive at least 15 minutes BEFORE the departure times to secure your seat.

You don’t need to book a seat on the bus or buy a ticket. This is included in the race fee and you will just need to show your race number to board the bus.

Buses From Galway & Oughterard

Buses depart from the Cathedral car park in Galway City and all buses will also stop at the GAA pitches in Oughterard for pick up. Parking at the car park at the GAA grounds is free this year (paid for by the event), but the car park will be unsupervised so please park sensibly and don’t block anyone in.

Ultra Marathon
Buses depart the Cathedral car park, Galway City at 7.00am and pick up at the GAA pitches in Oughterard at 7.30am to reach Maam Cross before 8.00am. The Ultra marathon bus departs the Station House Hotel, Clifden at 7:15am.

Full Marathon
Buses depart the Cathedral car park, Galway City at 8:00am. The first bus will depart Oughterard at 8:30am to reach Lough Inagh at 9:15am. All walkers should use this bus to reach the race start on time. The last bus will leave Oughterard at 9:15am to reach Lough Inagh at 10:00am. There will not be a bus from Leenane to the full marathon start.

Half Marathon
Buses will depart the Cathedral car park, Galway City at 9am. Buses will depart Oughterard from 9:30am to 10:15am to reach Leenane before 11:00am. Walkers should be on board the first bus.

Buses From Clifden

Buses depart from the back of the Station House Hotel in Clifden.

Ultra Marathon
Bus departs Clifden at 7.15am.

Full Marathon
Buses depart Clifden at 8:45am. Walkers should be on the first bus to reach the race start on time.

Half Marathon
Buses depart Clifden at 9.20am. Half marathon buses travel to Leenane via Letterfrack.

Getting Back to Galway, Oughterard and Clifden After the Race

Competitors will be transferred by bus from Maam Cross (finish area) to Oughterard, Clifden and Galway City throughout the afternoon after the race. Selected buses will return to Leenane via Clifden – please check with the bus coordinator on the day. There is no timetable for the return buses. Once a bus is full it will leave and the next one will pull up. You won’t have to wait too long!
