With 12 weeks to go to the 18th April there was too much uncertainty and too many restrictions that would have had to be lifted for us to plan for the event to safely take place and for participants to fully commit to training plans, so we had to announce that the Connemarathon can not take place in 2021 due to the ongoing Covid situation worldwide.

All entries have automatically been transferred to 24th April 2022. However, there will also be a virtual option for those of you who want to continue with your training and focus on a target for this April. You will also be able to transfer your entry to 2023 or 2024.

Some FAQs…

I want to defer my entry to 24th April 2022, do I need to do anything?

No, if you are not doing the virtual Connemarathon in 2021 your entry will automatically be transferred to 2022 and you do not need to contact us.

What if I don’t want to do the race in 2022?

Your entry is valid for the Connemarathon in 2022, 2023 or 2024, so just contact us by 31st December 2021 to defer your entry to 2023 free of charge.

Can I get a refund of my entry fee?

As per the conditions of entry refunds are not an option. Following the postponement in 2020 we waived this condition and did offer refunds, however the financial impact of having to postpone the race multiple times prevents us from offering refunds this time around.

When is the virtual run?

You can complete your run any time from 17th to 25th April 2021.

My friend doesn’t have an entry but would like to do the virtual run. Is that possible?

The virtual run is intended for people with an entry for 2021, but we can accept a limited number of new entries. Your friend should email chris@dolmensports.com for details.

How do I sign up for the virtual run?

You can sign up at https://www.connemarathon.com/virtual. The closing date for virtual registrations will be 15th March.

I have already deferred my entry to 2022, can I switch that to the virtual option in 2021?

Yes, if you would like to sign up to the virtual Connemarathon you can do so at https://www.connemarathon.com/virtual

If I have an entry for the full marathon, can I do the virtual half marathon?

Yes, when signing up for the virtual run you can select any distance whether that’s longer or shorter than your original entry.

What’s included in the virtual Connemarathon?

– All postage charges and online card processing fees
– Race bib delivered before your run (if requested)
– 2021 Connemarathon T-shirt
– 2020 Connemarathon T-shirt
– Connemarathon finishers medal
– Connemarathon race beanie
– A €10 discount code for the Dolmen Sports online shop or for Connemarathon 2022
– Your name and time included in the Virtual CNM results

Why not run the race later in the year?

We looked at this option but couldn’t risk having to postpone the event again so for more certainty we decided to sit out 2021 and be back in 2022. Also, if races do go ahead later in 2021 the race calendar will already be very full and we don’t need to add to that.

Why not wait and see how the situation develops before cancelling the race?

The decision to cancel the race has to be made well in advance for a long list of reasons, both from an organiser’s point of view and a participant’s. Supplies and suppliers have to be ordered and booked, road closures need to be applied for (minimum of 8 weeks) and participants need to train, book hotels and flights, etc. We couldn’t see the situation improving quickly enough to have any confidence of a safe race in 2021.

I have a question that is not covered above, who can I contact?
