Thanks very much to everyone involved, that was just brilliant, I didn't hit the wall, it fell on top of me, finishing was one of the best things I have ever done and I'll definitely be back next year.

The organisation was faultless, from the baggage buses, to the fantastic aid stations(those kids worked HARD), to the t shirts and medals. All utterly, utterly wonderful (the scenery was quite nice too-tee hee).

Ray, I had a fabulous weekend. I really enjoyed the run. It's a unique and great event. Liam, Gary, Aisling and Tony all had a great time. Special mention to the marquee - well laid out and great grub.
Things to do Today
Sat, 15/12/2007Connemarathon 2008 preparations are well and truly underway.
While all you can think about is turkey and presents, I am awake at night thinking about getting 3,500 people to the start line in April.
We held the first full Connemarathon day this week and covered quite a bit of ground. Even though we have held many meetings discussing the ins and outs of the event, I always shudder when the long list of tasks presents itself at the first formal Connemarathon day. 51 different sections and most have multiple little tasks hidden underneath just to make things all the more interesting and keep us on our toes. It is refreshing though, to have experienced race organisers all around me, and interestingly not many of them runners, although that is being addressed aggressively.
The first joke when Joining Proactive is "make sure you don't book holidays on Connemarathon weekend"... no, it's not a joke actually, it's quite serious!!! DO NOT EVEN THINK OF TAKING TIME OFF THAT WEEKEND. They are a great bunch and I am very lucky to have them support the Connemarathon in the way they do. Proactive is the marketing company behind the Connemara Marathon, a silent driving force that beaver away in the weeks building up to the event and on the day itself. The more important tasks are assigned a dedicated manager who reports on a regular basis covering only the specific issues relating to their area. They've been there before and they know what to expect and how to improve. Improvement is something that we constantly strive for.
We haven't finalised all the important details that the participants will be most interested in, but I can say at this stage that Chip timing is being introduced in 2008. This should help to ease congestion at the finish area and also make sure the poor souls at the back of the field at the start of the Half will get an accurate finish time as we will be providing starting mats for the Half marathon. But more on that later.
Training for the 10 in 10 went uninterrupted for 9 days and then hit a "can't possibly fit training in today" moment. Had a good talking to from one of my buddies "then get up at 4am" and you know what, he was right. Back on track then.
BTW. 2008 entries are nearing the 2,000 mark, now well ahead of last year.
