  • I really must be one of the early ones in the long queue of congratulation emails you will get. To all involved in the organisation of this race THANK YOU. Can I enter yet for next year????????

  • I can't say enough good things about the organisers and the brilliant people who manned the aid stations, thanks indeed for one of the best and most memorable days ever. Looking forward to 2008! (after another day or two sitting down)

  • I just want to thank everyone on the Connemara Marathon team for making yesterday so special. It was a day from heaven - even if large parts of it did fell like hell :)

Connemara Ultra

Kirkland Returns

Wed, 15/02/2012

Ultra Marathon Course Record holder David Kirkland makes a return to Connemara.

When David Kirkland sped through Leenane at 11:38am he was two minutes ahead of schedule to break 4 hours in the 39.3 mile Ultra Marathon. The strain of running a 2:38 marathon was nothing to this guy as he had run 2:23 in training for the event just a few weeks before...

His focus was fixed firmly on the clock but unfortunately the hills along the final third of the course eventually broke his rhythm and he finished in 4 hours and 3 minutes. An absolutely incredible time by any standard, but not quite satisfactory for this extraordinary ultra runner. He was crowned the Connemara Ultra Champion that year but he knew there was unfinished business with this course!

David was determined to get back on the start line of the 2011 event but an injury late in training forced a reluctant withdrawal.

We are absolutely delighted to announce today that David Kirkland intends to return to the start line of the Connemara Ultra again this year, and we will welcome him with open arms as the champion he is.
